Methodology & Assumptions
Late-Stage Consolidation
REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep disproportionately occurs in the final third of the night. If you sleep 8 hours, you might get 30 minutes of REM in the first 4 hours, and 90 minutes in the last 4. Therefore, cutting your sleep short by just 2 hours (e.g., sleeping 6 hours instead of 8) can eliminate 50-70% of your total REM sleep, severely impairing emotional regulation and complex problem-solving.
